Cup Recycling in 10 steps
Recycling Cardboard Cups
Bunzl Foodservice offers the circular solution for the use of cardboard cups on-site with a maximum of 5% coating. In an era where sustainability is becoming increasingly important, Bunzl Foodservice is making a significant step in supporting companies to operate within the SUP regulations without compromising on convenience or quality. Read more here about the action plan in collaboration with BekerVriend! This allows customers to easily continue using and recycling cardboard cups with a maximum of 5% plastic coating.
Please note that ILT and BekerVriend provide their information in Dutch. If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to contact us!
How it works:
Step 1: Cardboard Cup with 5% Coating
Use a cardboard cup from Bunzl Foodservice with a maximum of 5% PE coating. Inquire about our standard cups or options for custom printing.
Please Note!
This recycling system only works when you use the cups from Bunzl Foodservice in combination with the special collection bags that you purchase from us. Only then can we accurately measure and optimize the recycling process.
Without this specific combination, it is not possible to recycle the cups properly according to the regulations of the ILT.
Step 2: Register with the Inspectorate for the Environment and Transport (ILT)
Please note that BekerVriend and ILT provide their information in Dutch. For the question, “Op welke wijze kunt u aantonen dat de verwerking ingezamelde kunststof bekers echt hoogwaardig is, zoals bedoeld in de regeling?” you need a product data sheet. You can request this from your contact person at Bunzl Foodservice.

Stap 4: Cup Collection
Once the bags have been delivered, they can be filled with cups!
Tip!
To make the most of the bag, you can use a special collection bin for cups. Stacked cups fit many more in the bag!

Step 5: Conditions for Submission
To ensure the quality of the recycling process, there are several acceptance conditions for submission.
Conditions:
✓ All cardboard cups must be collected in a TrackerSack waste bag.
✓ Cups must not contain any contamination (food residues, liquids, fats, or other substances that could disrupt the recycling process).
✓ Only cardboard cups with a (bio) PE coating can be processed.
✓ Upon submission, the cardboard cups will be checked for any contamination. If a cup does not meet the conditions, it will be rejected.
✓ Each approved bag will be registered in the system.
Step 6: Register with BekerVriend
Is the TrackerSack full? Tie the bag closed and place a collection request with BekerVriend, mentioning Bunzl Foodservice as your partner. After registration, you will gain access to the TrackerSack system. Here, you can easily arrange future collection requests and track the status of the collection.

Step 7: Collecting TrackerSack Waste Bags
After payment of the invoice, you will receive a confirmation from BekerVriend with the collection date. The waste bags will be collected within four weeks. Cups must be registered and collected within eight weeks after use.
Step 8: Checking TrackerSack Waste Bags
The driver scans the bags upon collection and checks for contamination. Contaminated bags will not be taken. The driver transports the bags to the weighing and pressing location.
Step 9: TrackerSack Data
The bags are weighed and bundled at the weighing and pressing location, after which the data is automatically stored in the TrackerSack system. This means you have complete documentation for the ILT, including the data in TrackerSack, which you must retain for three years and make available upon request.
Step 10: Recycling
The compressed cups are collected by The Cup Collective and transported to the recycler in full containers, where they are processed into paper products and plastic bags!
